About Me
Where do the style, subjects, meticulous research of supports, and textures in Diego Lorenzi’s paintings come from? Surely, they arise from the passion for painting he discovered at an early age and developed at the “Ego Bianchi” Art School in Cuneo, the Accademia Albertina in Turin, and during a ceramics course at the École Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques in Monaco.
For many years, Lorenzi paused from painting pictures but never abandoned painting entirely, dedicating himself to decoration, restoration, and the creation of floats for the Nice Carnival. These experiences were essential to his development as a painter, as were his upbringing by the sea in the Mediterranean scrub and his youthful admiration for the Divisionists, the Macchiaioli, and the Fauves.
His curiosity and experimentation with a wide variety of painting techniques were vital in finding the right material and “skin” for his work. Diego Lorenzi paints on polypan or wood, with subjects broken down into grainy, oily spots of color from oil pastels, remaining still against a matte, velvety background.
